Summer 2013

Thank you to everyone who attended today’s Summer Conference. We had just over 100 delegates attend the day. The feedback has been incredibly positive. Here’s a quick recap of the day.

Andree Coleman

Andree delivered a presentation on Exploring the Elements of Outstanding Teaching. Her presentation was full of honest, practical and inspiring advise about monitoring standards of teaching and about delivering outstanding lessons. The main piece of advice was about being clear about what you want children to learn in the lesson, not do.

A representative from Groupcall demonstrated how their new Emerge software can be used to raise standards of teaching.

Vernon Primary School

Stella Walker and Sarah Burgess gave a presentation titled ‘Using Drama as a Creative Tool to Enrich and Ensure Rapid Progress across the Curriculum’. They described an amazing classroom project which fulfills Ofsted’s outstanding criteria through creativity. Inspiring stuff!

Ash Grove Primary School

Kevin Simpson and his team from Ash Grove talked about ‘Life in an Oustanding School’. They described what works for them as an outstanding school in East Cheshire. Their main messages were: quality first teaching, an exciting curriculum, enrichment, an effective behaviour policy, CPD and openness with staff and also, keep it all simple! Amazing to hear about the outstanding practice in the school.

A representative from MGL talked about the new Computing curriculum and e-Safety. The new curriculum involves pupils as producers of content, rather than consumers; using the web effectively, politely and safely; and ‘looking under the hood’ – programming, how it works and understanding hardware.

Darrell Woodman

Darrell’s entertaining style was just what we needed to keep us all going after lunch. He talked about how neuro-linguistic programming and how we can programme our brains to be happy and ‘brilliant’ just be choosing our attitude. He introduced the principles in the Fish! video which can easily be applied to schools and to any situation.

We would like to thank our sponsors today: Education City, MGL World, Springboard Stories, The School Planner Company, Groupcall and Kontor for helping to make the day a success. Also, thank you to Cranage Hall – the perfect venue for our conference.
